New Titles, New Name, David F. Stamps New York State Section

Thanks to several donations in memory of local writer and Mannsville Free Library patron, David F. Stamps, our library can boast an expanded New York State section.

Throughout the 2000s, Mr. Stamps, who passed way in April of this year, was a sales representative, columnist, and photographer for the Jefferson County Journal and its statewide agricultural publication, the Empire State Farmer. Beginning in 2014, he wrote the “What Do I Think?” column for the South Jeff Journal.

A lover of travel and history, his weekly column might originate from somewhere in Italy, Poland, or the Czech Republic, and, as South Jeff Journal editor Kathy Taber Montgomery wrote upon his passing, “David brought the world to Jefferson County through his weekly columns.”

Mr. Stamps’ love of history especially included New York State history. These memorial donations allow Mannsville Free Library to acquire additional titles for the newly renamed  David F. Stamps New York State Section. We thank our donors for remembering Mr. Stamps in this way and for the opportunity to broaden our knowledge and love of New York State’s great history.
